Who is Kim Carriage?
Hi, my name
is Kim Carriage. I am an Aboriginal woman.
I was born in Moruya on the 25
January 1966,
and am a member of the Walbunja
Group.
The first time I did
Koori art was at a course in
Batemans Bay in 1994. At first I didn't know what it was all about,
but I enjoyed being taught about Indigenous art and culture and it was really great
because I hadn't been taught about this sort of art before this
course.
The first Painting I did was sold, which made me think that I had the
talent to do better. I
am growing to love Koori art and have made my
own Indigenous designs; also different details to my
work. I realize
I can do any art, not
only Koori art.
Most works that I've done have sold. People liked my work
and
sometimes I would give my art work to
them for nothing.
My Indigenous designs have being put on
clothing. Some of my
designs could also be
used for tattoos work. And also my work could be
used for just about anything.
My creation of my work has no names or stories. I just like painting and drawing. So whatever creative designs come into my mind I do, and that’s why it makes it hard to give my work a name and story.
My personal totem is the Magpie.
